IDAHO
From where I sit I can see The hills The river And the lake Birds cutting through air in the morning,Grass parted by a bull snake.
Bullfrogs singing to their lovers while overhead, Makes a man kind of wonder what he needs in the world Besides what he finds right here.
Idaho, Idaho There’s no place I'd rather go Every morning while I'm watching through my window The sun starting to glow,I thank God that I came back--Back to my Idaho.
From where I sit I can hear The birds The breeze And the waterfall Watching the trout swim Shining in the rivers, Shaded by the big fir trees. Makes a man kind of wonder what he did to deserve All the treasures he got for free.
THE TRAVELER
I am traveling in a spaceship On a terrestrial exploratory mission, Peering at a strange planet Through two translucent windows-Sending forth commands from the control room. Without delay, my probes touch, sense Vibrations enter my auditory sensors, Translating, imperfectly Through my computers-Provoking imperfect responses. My input closely equals my output Except for those materials retained. Automatically lubricating All my moving parts, Disposing of waste with steady consistency.
My ship can reproduce itself But only with brief interlocking with another. A technical process, but Miraculous in it's fulfillment Propelled by a force, an emotion, unexplained. My ship can nurture it's mirror And, by accident, it surveys our mistakes Which is more than I can say For it's parent ship-At least, emotionally speaking. The goal of my ship is knowledge, understanding-Unraveling the meaning of existence-Learning to love, and To give love Which will add to the life force of the universe. Someday, my ship will have accomplished it's purpose Will have carried me to maturity And I will discard it And travel on,alone,Unencumbered by material needs and physical baggage.
